Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef or Italian sausage
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 cans (6 oz each) tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Cheese Mixture
- 15 oz (425g) ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- Salt and pepper to taste
For Preparing
- 9-12 lasagna noodles (depending on the size of your dish)
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Extra grated Parmesan cheese for topping
Directions
- Prepare the Meat Sauce
- Take a saucepan, cook the ground beef over medium heat until get brownish color. Throw the excess fat
- Add chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté onion and garlic until it gets dry or translucent.
- Now, Simmer for 30 minutes and keep stirring of all the ingredients together tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, basil, oregano, sugar, salt and pepper.
- Prepare Cheese Mixture
- Now combine the ricotta cheese, egg, grated parmesan cheese, parsley, salt, pepper to mix until well combined
- Cook the Lasagna Noodles
- Cook the lasagna noodles according the instructions given on the packet of the noodles, and drain the water and lay them flat on a clean kitchen towel to prevent sticking.
- Gather all the Ingredients
- Preheat the over to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.
- Place the lasagna noodles over the sauce
- Spread a portion of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by a layer of meat sauce, and then layer of mozzarella cheese.
- Keep repeating the layers (noodle, ricotta, meat sauce, mozzarella) until all the ingredients are used after that topped with meat sauce and mozzarella cheese. Sprinkle extra Parmesan cheese on top.
- Baking
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil to prevent sticky, use cooking spray over the foil
- Take 25 minutes to bake in the preheated over
- Remove foil and bake for additional 25 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and turn to golden brown color
- Its Time to Serve
- Cool it first for 10 to 15 minutes
- Slice it ( it will help to hold the shape when serving
- Garnished with fresh basil or parsley or both if desired
